Minnesota saw 57 oil pipeline spills since 2000

The data - which doesn't count spills from trucks, generators, fires and explosions at refineries or gas stations - was provided to the media by Minnesota environmental groups who this morning are releasing the National Wildlife Federation's new study, "Assault on America: A Decade of Petroleum Company Disaster, Pollution, and Profit." It underscores that oil spills aren't just limited to the Gulf of Mexico - or Michigan...

sadly many government agencies exist, but they either have no teeth or their teeth have been cut because of lobbying from industry. Thus, we'll see lots more spills all over. Even if there weren't 57 reported ones and they're just now coming out of the woodworks...

Funny how all these stories slip out when there is a huge spill else where to take the heat off.

I think there are a lot more spills that will be brought to the surface before it's all over.

Who's in charge? As Vince Lombardi once said:
"What the hell is going around here."
These leaks should have been addressed during the
first one, not the 57th. Phew!

Anyone with half a brain, knows spills happen all the time, most are quite small. When will folks who keep believing the "Sky is falling" crowd, wise up and wake up to the truth.

Accidents happen and will continue to happen until... Oh, that's another topic.

Not a good time to be spilling oil...if I was an oil company or pipeline company, I would be hard at work to keep my company out of the news.

The federal, state and city government’s need to come down hard on them and show them ‘the way.’ Fine them severely and make them a believer!

There have been more oil pipeline spills over the last 10 years than oil well spills. Doesn't that tell you that there aren't many locations without some risk of an oil spill.

Before we all have one major hissy fit, let's consider several things: The source of the article is The Daily Planet as well as it's sister publication in Michigan. I encourage you to research the history of these publications as well as their mission statement (Hint: anti-American, anti-capitalism, anti-anything that's not global or multicultural). As with most, if not all, stories, there exists at least one other viewpoint. Let's hear what Enbridge Energy has to say about this. Finally, as a native Minnesotan, I of course have lived here during the period cited in the article. I stay fairly informed on news items. I recall no hand wringing over these reported incidents, in fact, I don't recall any reporting over these. Nonetheless, no one I know has sprung an extra appendage or turned green.

Although . . . I do have a neighbor who . . . gasp . . . cheers for the Packers!

It has just been politically popular to scream about this spill in the Gulf.

It may not be as much a disaster as it is made out. See this in Time Magazine:

The BP Spill: Has the Damage Been Exaggerated?

As true as this may be, it is nothing compared to the Gulf. But I agree, there has to be a better way to transport until we get away from oil!

The government is not going to clamp down on these companies because to many of them get kick backs from these oil companies.
